There is a small corner in the port of Gaios making a real difference when it comes to grabbing some coffee or a drink. Café-bar Libretto is just a few feet away from the sea, offering top quality service and products. Known for its affordable pricing, this family business has been operating since 1960, and has been recently renovated both in content and style.
Libretto opens its doors every morning, serving Portioli coffee of every kind. Its filter coffee is made with the dripper method and is especially worth mentioning for its higher flavor. For breakfast or elevenses you will find various snacks like cold sandwiches, croissant and more. You can also have some delicious burgers if you want something to eat for lunch. Available drinks include various flavors of Eraclea hot chocolate, famous across Europe for its top quality, and energizing freshly squeezed orange and pomegranate juice. Libretto is the perfect corner for lovers of good tea, serving four kinds of fresh tea (Little Prince, Rooibos Mango, Fruit and Cinnamon, Black Caramel Tea). Getting packaged in tea bags right when you order it, its excellent aroma takes center stage at its most fresh form.
For lunch and early afternoon hours you can order ouzo and tsipouro, accompanied with the respective “meze” on the house.
If you happen to visit Libretto late in the afternoon or in the evening, you can choose from a range of cocktails and cool down in a hot summer night. Lovers, Kinky Lollipop, Omerta and Mambo No5 are just a few of the customers’ favorite drinks. You can also enjoy some of the best beer one can find on the island, with Corfu Beer among the selection, a top quality unpasteurized beer, local favorite of the Corfu region. Libretto also has an excellent wine cellar, offering sparkling wine like Moet Chandon and Montiller’s Rose. A variety or liquor is also available, including limoncello, mastic and kumquat.
Chill jazz music sets the mood for the duration of the day at Libretto, sometimes turning into reggae for the night. Free WiFi is available to customers.
Finally, don’t forget to admire a wonderful painting of the famed painter Laertes, depicting the first ship Andreas Embirikos, a 20th century Greek poet, ever embarked on! It is a rare piece that can’t be found anywhere else!
