  • Sunset restaurant is with no exaggeration one of the staples of the restaurant business on Paxos Island. This family business has a long tradition of 40 years. Its roots stem from the Avlonitis’ family first restaurant opened in Lakka by the father of the family, Mr. Spiros and his wife Margarita, a most capable cook. Over the years Mr. Spiros came to be known to tourists as “Mr. Butterfly”, owing to the same name of that restaurant. It has been a long time since then, but one constant still remains: the family’s dedication to good food and warm hospitality. The tradition is carried on to this day with Sunset, a restaurant-café-bar in Kastanida, on top of the cliff.

The restaurant offers a variety of meat dishes such as lamb made in crock, youvetsi (beef stew with orzo pasta) in a clay marmite, oregano lamb, and chicken and lamb roasted in the wood-fired oven, adding a particularly special note to Sunset’s meals.

You can also try an assortment of delicious fish (always grilled on coal) which varies from day to day, depending on the daily catch of the fishermen. Sufrito and scorpion fish are some of the classic recipes on offer.

Worth mentioning is that some of the vegetables used like lettuce, artichokes and cucumbers are grown by the owners, straight from their garden.

Finally, the view from the restaurant’s terrace is truly indescribable. You can enjoy a near 180 degree view of the Ionian Sea, from Epirus to Corfu and –when the skies are crystal clear- even Italy.

Wi-Fi and internet access is freely available for customers wishing to keep connected.
