The Pantokratoras of Makratika is a small church with more painting inside it than its size suggests.

Its walls were decorated with red floral patterns on a cream ground. The iconostasis carries two dates, 1804 and 1805. In the sanctuary are painted a Holy Trinity and a Virgin and Child, and beside the small altar of the Pantokrator hangs an icon of Agios Gerasimos, the patron saint of the household that kept the church. Some of the painting here is attributed to Michail Mourikis, a Paxiot painter and brother of Bishop Dionysios.

In the nineteenth century the village school stood directly opposite the church door. Makratika then counted seventeen people: the two institutions of the hamlet faced each other across the same yard.

A note: Paxos has a second Pantokratoras, at Grammatikeika beside the Ypapanti. This is the one at Makratika.

Feast: the Transfiguration, 6 August.
