From Athens


By car

The options for those travelling by car or motorbike are mainly two:

Through the Old National road, where you drive through highway Athens – Patras, past Rio-Antirio bridge continue on to Ionian Highway to Amfilochia – Vonitsa – Aktion – Preveza till Igoumenitsa. The route covers 470 km and it takes an average of 5 1/2 hours to cross. There are five tolls on the way (Elefsina, Isthmus, Zevgolatio, Rio-Antirio Bridge, Angelokastro) with a total cost of about 23,00Euros.
Athens – Paxos (Old National road)

 

Through the New National road, where you drive through highway Athens – Patras, past Rio-Antirio bridge, continue on to Ionian Highway all the way until 3 km before Ioannina, where it intersects with Egnatia Odo on which you head to Igoumenitsa. The route covers 440 km and it takes an average of 3 1/2 hours to cross. There are six tolls you will go through (Elefsina, Isthmus, Zevgolatio, Rio-Antirio Bridge, Angelokastro, Tirion Station) at a total cost of about 26,5euros.

Athens – Paxos (New National road)

Igoumenitsa

The traveller can go from Igoumenitsa to Paxos by Ferry Boat of Kerkyra Lines. There are 1-2 trips daily, during the summer season, depending on the day of the week. Tickets can be purchased online or at the port. The cost per passenger is around 11,00Euros for adults and 5.50Euros for children (Free for children under 4years old).

By Bus

If you are travelling by means of public transportation, there are 2 main choices :

Traveling by intercity buses: KTEL Paxos is the best choice when traveling on a budget. During the summer months there are at least 2 routes every week; departing from opposite the building of the Traffic Police of Athens at Stathmo Larisis. Contact KTEL Paxos for the departure schedule and to reserve your seat. Traveling by KTEL Paxos is the best choice since they work in connection with the Ferry Boat and therefore, will transport you and your luggage directly at the port of Paxos.

KTEL Thesprotias depart from Kifisos KTEL station daily, have frequent trips throughout the day and will transport you and your luggage to the port of Igoumenitsa. Unlike KTEL Paxos, with this choice, depending on your departure and arrival time, you might have to wait a few hours to the port of Igoumenitsa or even spend the night there, until you can board on the next Ferry Boat to Paxos island.

 Igoumenitsa

Upon arriving at the port of Igoumenitsa the traveller has 2 main choices on how to reach Paxos :

The traveller can go from Igoumenitsa to Paxos by Ferry Boat of Kerkyra Lines. There are 1-2 trips daily, during the summer season, depending on the day of the week. By Airplane

By plane you can get till Corfu. From Athens airport (El. Venizelos), located at the end of Attiki Odos near the area Spata, Koropi, you can fly to Corfu airport with Aegean Airways, Olympic Airways and Ryan Air. The flight lasts about 50’.

Corfu airport (Ioannis Kapodistrias) is located 3 kilometres away from the city. To go from there to down town Corfu you have two main options:

You can take the city bus #15 that has frequent routes to and from the Port. Tickets can be purchased on board from the driver, at a cost of about 1.70Euros.

You can always grab a taxi anytime of the day for about 10,00Euros and the ride to down town takes about 10 minutes.

When you reach the port of Corfu you can choose the ship which will take you to your final destination. Your main choices for departing from Corfu to Paxos are two:

From Thessaloniki


By Car

The main highway connecting Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa is Egnatia Odos. The distance between the two is around 320 kilometres and it takes about 3 1/4 hours to cross. There are 4 tolls on the way and the cost is 8.50Euros for the cars while it is about 6.00Euros for the motorcycles.

By Airplane:

The airport of Thessaloniki, “Macedonia”, is located 14 km southeast of the city center, and from there you can reach “Ioannis Kapodistrias” airport in Corfu with Aegean Airways, Olympic Airways and Ryan Air flights. The flight lasts around 45′.

By Car

For those traveling by car unfortunately there is no direct transportation to Paxos. You will have therefore, to cross to Igoumenitsa and from there take the connecting Ferry Boat trip to Paxos.

On Foot

Those traveling without a vehicle can use the “Flying Dolphins” hydrofoil passenger only ferries, traveling daily from Corfu to Paxos. There are two companies you can book with:

For those traveling without a vehicle and who want to visit the island of Paxos there are frequent daily cruises leaving Parga ( as well as from the city of Sivoton ) that stop at all three central villages of the island as well as various other parts of it including Antipaxos. The cruise lasts approximately one hour.

Cruise ship Vicky -F II goes everyday on day long cruises and excursions to Paxos and Antipaxos as well as the island’s famous caves.

You can find flights from companies such as TUI Airways, Air Berlin, EasyJet, JatAirways, Thomas Cook Airlines, Transavia Airways, Thomson Airways and more.  Flights during summer months are usually on Fridays and Mondays.
