Arkoydaki is on the north east shore below Lakka, and what makes it unusual on this island is water.
The survey of 1885 records that here, right at the shore, water flowed into a small vaulted chamber, already ruined by then, with maidenhair fern growing in it. The water was called excellent, and the detail that matters is this: it ran even at the height of summer. On an island with no springs and no rivers, where every household lived off a rain cistern, a shoreline source that did not dry up in August was worth recording.
The rock here is conglomerate. North of the beach the next stretch was called Agathero, once vineyards, now myrtle, sea squill and fern, and beyond that stood the small white house of Papamarkos.
The beach is reached from Lakka on foot or by boat.
