Avlaki of Vlachopoulatika is on the west coast, north of the Avlaki inlet proper and not to be confused with it. These are two different beaches.

Getting here is the whole story. There is no road. You come by sea, or you take the path down from Vlachopoulatika, and that path is hard work: it drops over rock and through scrub, and the last part is a scramble rather than a walk. Wear something on your feet and do not attempt it carrying much.

What you get for the effort is the west coast at its most untouched. Nothing is built, nobody runs a boat service here, and on most days you will have it to yourself. The cliffs along this stretch are riddled with sea caves, and this is the coast where the monk seals were common enough in the nineteenth century that an old fisherman could count more than a hundred killed in his lifetime.

Take water. Take everything out with you.
